Prepare for your next practice session
Start with the lesson’s goal and focus points. As the supervisor (handledare), keep your attention on the learner and the traffic during practice. Afterwards, assess the driving in the app once the car is parked.
Check the requirements before you drive
Steerly does not replace the necessary permits or your responsibility as a supervisor. Transportstyrelsen, the Swedish Transport Agency, provides the full requirements and application information.
- As a supervisor, you must be at least 24 and have held a licence for the vehicle for at least five years in total during the past ten years.
- You need to apply for approval as a supervisor and meet the requirements.
- The learner needs a valid learner’s permit (körkortstillstånd).

Before driving
Read the goal and your focus points
Open the lesson you will practise and read the briefing while the car is parked. It gives you the lesson’s goal, a suitable setting and what to look out for.

Scan systematically in city traffic, keeping your eyes moving and staying ready to brake around vulnerable road users.
Focus points in the briefing
- Does the learner keep scanning far ahead, nearby and in the mirrors?
- Does the learner keep enough distance from the vehicle ahead?
- Does the learner prepare to brake in good time for vulnerable road users?
This lesson is in practical stage 10, City Driving (Central) — Stadskörning (Central) in the Swedish app. If you are just starting out, begin with the introductory stages on driving position and manoeuvring.
During the drive
Route support without losing sight of the traffic
The app’s navigation is there to support you. It never replaces attention to the road, road signs, other road users or your responsibility as a supervisor.
Plan the route before you start
When the lesson needs a particular setting, the app can suggest a route. You can also plan your own. Early lessons can take place while stationary or in quiet surroundings without a route.
Park before using the phone
Read and set up the app before driving. If you need to change something or read more during the session, stop and park first.

Review the drive against the lesson. In this Swedish app example, you rate observation and scanning, traffic rules, and interaction with other road users. The three options translate as “Needs practice”, “Good” and “Perfect”.
Optional: your self-assessment
Before handing over the phone, you can reflect on how you supervised the learner. You can skip this part.
Then hand the phone to the learner
With the car still parked, the phone changes hands once. The learner can assess their own driving and answer questions about the supervision.
Feedback on the supervision never changes the learner’s result in the app.
